self catering breaks wales

This website has been created as an information page detailing self catering breaks in wales from Porthiddy. In particular self catering breaks in Pembrokeshire in the South of Wales in the National Park.

Self catering breaks mean that you are allowing yourself the freedom to try an wide range of eateries and public houses in your chosen destination rather than limit yourself to where you are staying. Although having some meals included is convenient, eating at the same place every day and night can become a bit monotonous and frankly quite boring. Self catering breaks will suit those who like to get out and try new things, including families. The area of Pembrokeshire is very family orientated in that children are welcome in most eating houses and are catered for.

There are so many things to do and see in Pembrokeshire also. The most famous landmark in St David’s is the cathedral, which stands on the site of the monastery established by Saint David himself. Parts of the building date back to eleven eighty one, and has attracted many visitors seeking peace and prayer through to the present day. It is unusual to find a cathedral in a valley, indeed, you probably won’t spot it when you first enter the city. As you make your way down from the square, you’ll pass through the thirteenth century tower gate, and it’s from here you get the best view of the cathedral close. The location has also led to some architectural oddities, as you stand inside at the west end of the nave and look towards the choir, you may notice that the pillars lean outwards and the floor slopes up. The choir is also of particular interest, as from here you can look up at the elegantly decorated ceiling under the tower. The seats of the misericord seats display some fine examples of sixteenth century carving. The cathedral’s organ has recently been overhauled, and looks and sounds magnificent. Next to the cathedral is the imposing ruin of the fourteenth century Bishop’s Palace. What remains is an impressive example of medieval architecture and craftsmanship, and is open to the public.
